Kings school retaining walls

This project involves carrying out remedial works on an existing steel post retaining wall that failed during the Auckland anniversary weekend flooding in 2023. The works include the removal of 4500m3 of earth behind the retaining wall to carry out new piling, concrete walers, ground anchors and extensive drainage upgrades. All the excavated material is then stabilised and used to fill the wall back up to the existing field level.

A new timber retaining wall is also being constructed on the South side of the field to increase the usable area and a comprehensive SW network is also being installed to manage the significant catchment area that is currently draining onto the field.

Some of the key challenges encountered within the project are:

  1. Proximity of the construction works to a Significant Ecological Area (SEA).

  2. Space constraints within the field.

  3. Working within an operating school environment
